The Ninjas played in the Second Chance Tournament this weekend. We won Friday night and Saturday afternoon but stalled Saturday evening. No worries, Ninjas own the spring session. The last two spring sessions the Ninjas won the division, won Regionals, and went to Nationals in Vegas. This year we hope to do the same. Vegas 3-peat.

With the rumble of a V twin in the parking lot, the aroma of beer, nacho cheese and cigarette smoke in the air, classic rock blaring on the PA, 50 pool tables and 150 pool teams playing in an abandoned Rite Aid turned makeshift pool hall, I’d say we were at the ‘09 NOLA APA Local Teams Championships in the Bellemeade Plaza. Wednesday started out with a tough loss to Foxtrot Uniforms immediately putting the Ninjas on the left side of the bracket. With our spirits slightly down, we headed back Thursday night to play Rack Attack. Sammy, G and I get credit for the wins in this match, keeping the Ninjas alive. The weekend began Saturday morning against We don’t know yet. Sammy, G and Jeff won, shifting the Ninjas back to the right side of the bracket. Now with confidence back in full swing and a stomach full of taco bell, we cruised into Saturday afternoon ready to play Still Smokin’. After Sammy stumbled, G played a marathon match against a 6 and won. It’s what he does. I stepped up for an easy win against a 3 leaving us needing only one more to advance to semifinals on Sunday. I guess this is when Jesse decided it was time to unveil his skill under pressure and deliver the final blow to Still Smokin’. Sorry guys, Gretna’s finest is right outside and I would be careful because they are looking for something to do. After hightailing it back to the eastbank Saturday night we returned Sunday morning rested and ready to play Foxtrot in the semifinals. Due to Foxtrot being unable to field a team with numbers that would not exceed 23, the entire match was immediately ruled a win for the Ninjas. Big ups to Foxtrot for being true sportsman in lieu of these events. With a win by DQ in the semis and Tommy ‘Lucky Charm’ Pollman in attendance, the Ninjas were ready to face Destroyers in the finals. The atmosphere was so thick with tension and stale winstons you could cut it with a knife. Sammy got our first win with a memorable shot, walking his last frozen ball all the way down the long rail. Jeff then proceeded to bring it to 2-0 with solid shut down pool. Up against Destroyers top player I played the sacrificial lamb and dropped the score to 2-1. Needing just one more win to make it to Vegas, Jesse went up and cemented his MVP status by making a 13 ball cut thinner than Paulie Cicero’s garlic chopping razor blade. This amazing shot set him up for the game and tournament winning 8 ball. Surely the cards can fall for a team once in any given year, but to make it to nationals twice in a row? Have the seeds of a dynasty been planted? Do the Ninjas have what it takes to make a run for it all in Vegas?

Spring 09 Division Winnas!

Although the coin toss was practiced for hours on end prior to the match last nite, we were not victorious in this event. Following standard ninja playoff strategy, G managed to hit the biting sliders and led us off with a strong 3-0 win over crossbones’ starting pitcher, Randy Johnson. Coming off a tough first game loss, the crossbones captain stepped up to plate. Ronda played well and managed to bring it to the hill but lost in the end. With the score 1-1, Jeff went up next against Scott ‘why am I playing amateur pool’ Pardo. As the old proverbial saying goes, ‘pimping and playing pros aint easy’. Ninjas now down 1-2, Sammy ‘Shut Down’ Perino pulled out a win in a nail biter against crossbones’ sleeper 3, John Grider. With the match tied up 2-2 and midnight approaching quickly, Scuba ‘Nice Leave’ Steve demonstrated to Jeanne ‘Ive never really played before’ Tripoli what a cleanup game is with a 4-0 shutout. Does anyone care to argue against the fact that the Ninjas own Mid City?

5.13.2009 - The first round of playoffs has commenced. MCYC beat the Lo-Ballers (3-2) and Wits Inn beat Bud Rips. The second round begins this Saturday and we'll be playing the winner out of these two teams Wednesday May 20th

The Ninjas pulled it off. We finished strong, winning the last 5 weeks of play. Finishing 1st place allows the Ninjas to bypass the playoffs and advance to the Divisional Championship. If the Ninjas win the Division, we advance to Regionals, which is our chance to go to Vegas. Last Spring session, the Ninjas won both the Division and Regionals and advanced to Nationals in Vegas.

It was a tough loss but a great season. Jesse and Joey are great additions to our roster and we are looking forward to their contributions in the Spring. Ronda is no longer married to her business so we are awaiting her full return next session. The Spring session is our last chance to qualify for Regionals. We have no worries. The Ninjas operate best under pressure. Besides, last Spring we qualified for Regionals and went all the way to Nationals.

Wow. 3 and out…. The momentum was set up from the get go with a clutch win on the coin flip by yours truly. Tails! Sammy played first and of course had to bring it to double hill with Sheila E, leaving us biting our nails during the silence before shots. I think I heard the fog forming outside. With a cue from the boys Sammy turned on shutdown mode and did just that. OTSSS. Following ninja playoff strategy G went up next. Lo Ballers mistook G for a six and threw up their 7, Alvarez ‘I cant find my keys’ Neely. Al took an early lead, but G managed to take advantage of the mismatch and won after 4 games. Operation bluetooth hack: successful. Barely standing, Lo Ballers threw up Goo hoping to get a win. No worries, Jesse stepped up to the plate and displayed why the Ninjas are such a dominating force. Game Over. Only the Strong Survive Son. If I were Witts Inn or MC Yacht Club I would be very nervous right now. Either way we like the Lo Ballers new diggs, everyone was very hospitable and Sal’s ribeye plates are simply marvelous. Scuba out.

To be fair, it must be stated that the Ninjas did not make the summer session 08 playoffs. The APA had not updated everything at the time of the last post and we were actually in a 3 way tie for fourth, sans tiebreaker, leaving us one measly win away from the playoffs. G, if only you would have won any of those times you lost. So we played Marlene’s Place last night in 2nd chance playoffs and managed to oust them in the final hour. Jeff, G, and I get credit for the W’s. This gives us a spot in the 2nd chance tourney at Boomtown coming up soon. Again we were slackin with pix so just in case anyone isn’t tired of seeing Jeff flex here ya go. Don’t shoot your eye out.

It was a fun but LONG night. As you can see below, we started the night off with Ronda 3 strokes, but she only stroked once and came up short. Buddy brought home the first 'W'. Steve fell to Tim but Sammy and Jesse played some 'Shut-Down Pool' and closed out the night with back to back 'W's.

Big Ups to Buddy and the new daddy for getting us a couple wins. Pickin pockets played tight pool all night, keeping us on our toes. Good game.

During Ronda's match she found herself behind the 8 ball but had already used her time out. Jeff made a split second decision to use a diversion cloud and was able to consult her with the right shot. You cannot control a ninja, you can only hope to contain him.

Make sure that beer has ice in it, Athony made Honorary Ninja status. Very few are granted such a title.

Paul Newman showed up, I havent seen this dude since the Color of Money. "Did I get through to you last night, Kiddo? Cause if I didnt, I'll run it by you another way. If you would have kicked ass in any other place but Parkview, Vegas would be dead for us. The Guys Never Leave The Street. Otherwise, it would be all around."

Wednesday night went pretty well. We won 3-2 . Congrats to Mike, Ronda, and Buddy for pulling out a 'W' .

Now I thought about this for a long time and I decided to illustrate to all of the readers of this blog one of the many skills of a Ninja. It is a stealth tactic used as a diversion against the Samurai Warrior and dates back to the 15th Century. It is called Ninja Dust. Wednesday night Steve demonstrated this ancient skill.
